The tune is continued by exactly the same Markov chain as chapter 2. Only the material changed — sentences became notes.

That is the whole reason this chapter exists. AI reuses one method across different materials: the trick for guessing the next word guesses the next note. Here it looks at the previous two notes to choose the next one.

There is a reason for six keys. They are drawn from a pentatonic scale — five notes that never clash however you combine them. A child can hit anything and it still sounds like music. We built an instrument you cannot fail at.

The sound is generated on the spot with Web Audio, not played from recordings. Zero assets, and it works with the internet unplugged.

Splitting your notes and the machine's notes by colour was deliberate too. If you cannot see where you stopped, you cannot see what the machine did.
